Luka Modrić, the Midfielder from Zadar

One of the best midfielders in his age group, Luka Modrić is the man who, arguably, put Croatia on the map. Lucky Luka was a very gifted young player from his childhood. Unfortunately, the political situation in his country caused the displacement of his family. His first notable transfer from Dinamo came in 2008 when he became one of the Spurs, helping the team reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, something that Tottenham Hotspur had not experienced for five decades, and certainly something no one would have dared to spend their SportPesa bonus code to bet on. Two years before that, he made his debut on the national team. He is currently playing for Real Madrid, where he won the UEFA Champions League.

Early Years

The war in the region turned Luka’s family into refugees. Luka himself was always interested in playing football, in spite of his small frame and fragile physique that made him get rejected by Hajduk Split. However, as a 16-year-old, he entered his first serious team, Dinamo Zagreb.

Dinamo was the first lucrative deal that Luka was able to utilize to take care of his family. He bought them an apartment. He was working hard in the next few seasons with Dinamo, making sure that his contributions to the team could be felt. It was partially thanks to him that his team won several titles, which landed him the Player of the Year award, issued by Tportal.hr.

When Dinamo won their second Croatian Cup, Luka was looking at offers from many major teams and he finally chose to leave Dinamo in favour of Tottenham Hotspur in 2008. At the time, the Spurts paid a record of £ 16.5 million to have the aspiring Luka Modrić on their team.

2010 – Present

Luka Modrić drastically improved the statistics of Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, he was the one that helped the team reach the UEFA Champions League and make it all the way into the quarter-finals. In 2011, however, other clubs began issuing their proposals. Chelsea was the most adamant of the teams that wanted him, gradually increasing their offer to a whopping 40 million pounds!

Luka did leave the Spurs in 2012, but for Real Madrid. This is also his current team. Though Real Madrid offered less for Luka, their brand, play style, and quality made them a catch. The deal was a win-win for all parties involved, and Modrić is still more than just a footballer.
